Social Care With & Within Groups

This module helps you to gain a deeper understanding of the way individuals interact with one another.  For example, how do people relate to others?  And, what happens when things break down?  From the basics of how groups work, to the differences between families, communities and teams, this module offers some fascinating insights to develop your awareness of group dynamics.

What does the module cover?

You’ll begin by exploring group behaviour, dynamics, structure and culture, how groups form and the phases which they go through. You’ll gain skills for life through practice of working with groups, developing skills in negotiating terms of engagement, dealing with group processes, and working towards outcomes which are empowering. Explore the range of conceptual frameworks which can be used to make sense of groups, drawing on social psychological approaches and Mead’s theoretical framework, among others. You’ll also have the opportunity for critical reflection on your own experience of group work.
