What are your strengths and weaknesses, and aspirations?  In this module, you’ll draw on your skills and experience to develop a realistic and achievable career development action plan, taking into account the job market and what opportunities are available. You’ll get useful insights into the recruitment process, as well as developing your understandings of equal opportunities frameworks and professional practice around issues of diversity.

What does the module cover?

You’ll critically reflect upon your own personal skills, experience and aspirations and construct a position statement and a career development action plan within your Personal Development Plan (PDP).  You’ll have the opportunity to research and critically evaluate the job market and work cultures in the field of social care and its related areas, and evaluate the recruitment process.  Learn the skills needed in employment, including the theory and practice of working in teams, communication and managing diversity.

•    Produce a portfolio of research conducted into possible career and professional development opportunities reflecting both possible next steps, and mid to long term career possibilities
•    The conceptual frameworks of professional identity, including the concept of continual professional development
•    An exploration of the wider contexts of the labour market, the needs of employing organisations, and the diversity of career experience within different organisational contexts and work cultures
•    Equal opportunities, diversity and anti-oppressive practices and their centrality to working in social care
•    Personal Development Plan review and writing a position statement to reflect career aspirations
•    Developing a career action plan with a range of specific objectives for professional practice

Assessment

As your summative assessment for this module you’ll need to successfully complete three tasks, each counting towards your final grade:

•    PDP:  Position Statement + Career Action Plan (1,500 words)         30%
•    Portfolio (1,500 words)                             35%
•    Job application practice (1,500 words)                     35%
