Contemporary Issues in Education & Training
This module draws on research – as well as theoretical models and methods from different educational contexts – to give you an understanding of the main issues in the world of education today. By examining current controversies, research evidence and policy recommendations; you’ll develop a critical approach to the production of knowledge. What you learn will help you understand and evaluate education, both in the UK and internationally.
What does the module cover?
Identify the ideologies underpinning educational policies in the UK and abroad and evaluate key policy changes. Use conceptual frameworks in understanding the decision-making process in refugee education provision. Evaluate changes within refugee education and assess how these individuals and institutions mediate change. Engage with the ethical and political implications of multicultural and anti-racist discourse within the education process. Describe the wider social consequences of education policy changes, particularly in relation to equity, inclusion and wider participation. Finally, you’ll explore the relationships between social exclusion and restricted access to education.

You’ll need to complete a number of assessments as part of your coursework that can be forward to your academic tutor for grading and comments.
The summative assessment for this module is a coursework essay of 3,500-4000 words.
