Community Development, Politics, Policy & Practice
This module examines the principles of community development, as well as looking at the work in the community practices. From studying the different theoretical models of community education, organisations and groups, you’ll evaluate the effectiveness of the various development agencies, NGO’s and voluntary organisations. In this way, you’ll gain a deeper awareness of current values in community development.
What does the module cover?
You’ll explore the links between community and learning; and learn to identify and evaluate a number of community initiatives against social exclusion. Using a variety of perspectives you’ll critique arguments and theories of contemporary community development strategies. Familiarise yourself with the practices of community organisations and voluntary groups. Finally, you’ll examine the role of ASBOs and youth and justice in relation to community development

Assessment
In this module there are a number of formative assessments that you’ll need to complete as part of your study and forward to your academic tutor for grading and comments.
You’ll also need to successfully complete a summative assessment to meet your final grade which will take the form of an essay (3,500-4,000 words).
