Management in Early Years Settings

Knowing how to manage resources, and how individuals are affected by the deployment of resources, is a key challenge in education.  This module aims to give you a thorough understanding of what management involves, giving you practical examples, as well as increasing your theoretical knowledge.  You’ll have the opportunity to critically analyse the way services have developed, and look at the manager’s role in early years settings.

What does the module cover?

You’ll examine management issues from a theoretical perspective.  Gain knowledge and understanding of a manager’s role in the management of early years settings and how to manage a range of resources.  You’ll cover topics from financial management, business plans, organisational objectives and prioritising to planning and implementing change strategies, personnel issues, and dealing with unsatisfactory staff.  In addition, you’ll explore the regulatory and fiscal framework of early years settings such as legislation on race, gender and disability, Trades Union rights, self-assessment and inspection.
