This module explores social psychological theories that aim to develop your understanding of social behaviour, both of the self and of others.

What does the module cover?

You’ll explore key positions within contemporary social psychology.  Discover the form and function of various types of social relationship.  Begin to analyse the advantages and disadvantages of competing approaches within Social Psychology.  Assess the influence of social and cultural contexts on the formation of individuals' identities and attitudes, and identify the ways in which social psychology can be applied to understanding everyday life.  Develop skills for life in communicating arguments more effectively in a logical and cogent manner.

Assessment

You’ll need to complete a two-hour unseen exam which counts towards 100% of your grade.  The examination has two sections. The first section will be two essay type questions, requiring you to apply the material you’ve studied during the module. The second section will be short answer questions assessing your understanding of material you’ve studied during the module.
