Psychology of Education

This fascinating module demonstrates how psychological theory has influenced our understanding of the way in which we learn. In turn, it enables you to apply psychological principles in the different evaluating methods of instruction.

What does the module cover?

Gain knowledge of the key theories of learning and development.  Compare educational methods and practices within different settings.  Critically evaluate key theories of learning and development.  Appraise research methods used by educational psychologists, and apply psychological principles in evaluating instructional practices.  Increase your awareness of how to identify common barriers to learning and learn to articulate awareness of differences in people’s optimal learning mode.

Assessment

You’ll need to complete one coursework essay (2500 words), counting towards 50% of your grade.  The essay will require you to analyse and report on the application of psychology in an education setting. 

The second assessment in this module takes the form of a 2-hour unseen exam which you’ll need to complete, counting towards 50% of your grade.  The exam will have a section of essay type questions, aimed to assess your application of the material studied in the module, and a section of short answer questions aimed to assess your understanding of material studied in the module.
