This module introduces the realities of work organisation, how it can be analysed and its consequences for management and employees. You'll learn how social science can be used, and how to evaluate the different forms of work organisation, managerial and employee goals. You'll also learn to appreciate the complexities of working as a group.
What does the module cover?
Gain insight into the differing and competing perspectives on employment, work organisation and how people are managed. Gain an understanding of how managerial and employee goals are formed and pursued in the context of work organisation. Learn to recognise conflict and commitment as key outcomes of work and the different ways in which they can both be managed. You’ll employ a variety of social science and management concepts to analyse work organisation in its various forms. Recognise how human behaviour in the workplace can inform decision-making regarding how people should be managed.

Assessment
In addition to a number of formative assessments that you’ll need to complete as part of your coursework, you’ll also need to successfully complete a summative assessment for this module, which comes in two parts (each counting towards 50% of your final grade):
Component 1
A group project of approximately 2,000 words based on the Annual Report of a public limited company
Component 2
1.5 hour Open book Time Constrained Assignment
