NCFE Safe Handling of Medicines - 1 day course

This course is aimed at non-medical staff working in health or social care environments. It is ideal for individuals new to a job, returning to work, or those with no formal training qualifications. It is essential that employers ensure that employees have relevant training in relation to legislation governing, administering, caring and keeping proper records of client or patient medication.

This is a one day group course only, you can not buy or study it on your own.  To discuss a group booking, please call.


Entry Requirements

There are no pre-requisites for this course, although it is recommended that you either currently work in this discipline, or are interested in doing so.

Assessment

Each learner's progress throughout the day will be assessed by the Tutor, and at the end of the session, each learner will complete a multiple choice questionnaire which will be marked by the Tutor also.

What will I get?

You will be provided with an expert Tutor who will deliver the session face-to-face, provide course materials for each learner to keep, and provide individuals assessment throughout the day. On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a NCFE IIQ Certificate.

On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • State what a medicine is
  • Explain the need for safe administration of medicines and the importance of record keeping
  • Explain the factors that necessitate the safe stroage of medicine
  • Explain the reasons for and the importance of completing a risk assessment
  • Outline what to do if a medicine is refused or if an error is made
  • List the various points of entry and the different packaging and compliance devices
  • Demostrate an awareness of the possible side effects of medicines
  • Explain the importance of infection control procedures.
