NCFE Dementia Care - 1 day course

This course is an excellent introduction or reintroduction to dementia care for employees who are responsible for providing care. This training gives an all-round knowledge of caring for those with dementia, acting as an introduction to all the essential skills and knowledge needed in this environment. This training session is intended to complement core caring skills already possessed, and underscore these practical skills with the theoretical knowledge.

 

This is a one day group course only, you can not buy or study it on your own.  To discuss a group booking, please call.

Entry Requirements

There are no pre-requisites for this course, although it is recommended that you either currently work in this discipline, or are interested in doing so.

Assessment

Each learner's progress throughout the day will be assessed by the Tutor, and at the end of the session, each learner will complete a multiple choice questionnaire which will be marked by the Tutor also.

What will I get?

You will be provided with an expert Tutor who will deliver the session face-to-face, provide course materials for each learner to keep, and provide individuals assessment throughout the day. On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a NCFE IIQ Certificate.

On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the definition of dementia and the causes
  • Understand the caring goals of Person Centred Care
  • Understand the various types of dementia
  • Understand the areas of the brain affected by dementia and the progressive symptons of dementia
  • Understand the importance of communication and the effects of dementia on behaviour
  • Identify strategies to deal with confusion, memory loss, depression and general changes in behaviour
  • Understand the effects of dementia on the family, the carers and how to support them
  • Understand the importance of providing care and adapting the physical environment of the home
  • Identify strategies to cope with the transition of moving into long term care
  • Understand the main treatments - drugs and therapies - for dementia
