MCSA certification is a first step to getting a job as an IT specialist in a medium to large company, as a systems administrator, network administrator or IT engineer. The course is also a stepping stone on the way to the MCSE qualification, which is one of the most widely recognised technical qualifications in the industry.

The MCSA course is for those looking to succeed in an IT specialist role that demands skills in managing and troubleshooting network environments in the Windows operating system. Such jobs include systems or network administrator, network operations analyst, network technician, and technical support specialist.

You will learn how to implement, manage and maintain the often complex computing environment of companies operating on the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 platform. You will also learn how to configure, manage and troubleshoot on the Microsoft Windows XP operating system.


Entry Requirements

In order to successfully pass this course, you should have 6 to 12 months of experience administering client and network operating systems in environments that has:

  • 250 to 5,000+ users
  • Windows XP as a desktop operating system
  • Three or more physical locations
  • Three or more domain controllers
  • Network services and resources such as messaging, database, file and print, proxy server, firewall, Internet, intranet, remote access, and client computer management
  • Connectivity requirements such as connecting branch offices and individual users in remote locations to the corporate network and connecting corporate networks to the Internet

In addition, candidates must:

  • Have one year of experience implementing and administering any desktop operating system in a network environment
  • Have experience in supporting end users who run Microsoft XP in both a business and leisure environment
  • Be familiar with using Windows-included applications such as Internet Explorer and Office

Resolve issues by telephone, remote access or visiting an user's desktop.

Assessment

To earn the MCSA on Windows Server 2003 certification, you must pass four exams (in any order):

Two exams on networking systems:

  • 70-290 Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment
  • 70-291 Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure

One exam on client operating systems:

  • 70-270 Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows XP Professional

or

  • 70-620 Configuring Microsoft Windows Vista Client

One elective exam:

  • 70-299 Implementing and Administering Security in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network

or

  • 70-630 Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, Configuring

All exams will take place at your local Authorised Prometric Test Centre.
