ICS Paediatric First Aid in England & Wales

ICS Paediatric First Aid in England & Wales

This Paediatric First Aid course is designed by St John Ambulance Service to enable you to deliver life-saving First Aid for babies and children. Whether at home or at work, this St John First Aid course, which meets OFSTED First Aid requirements for registered childminders, will give you the confidence to act effectively in an emergency and perhaps even save a life.

Our Paediatric First Aid course equips you with vital, life-saving skills and with the confidence to act quickly and calmly - especially important in First Aid for children.

The course is devised for use in England and Wales and is designed by St John First Aid. It meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework and OFSTED First Aid requirements for registered childminders.

The Paediatric First Aid course will teach you first about basic anatomy and the most common problems that can affect breathing and bleeding. You'll discover the best ways to treat minor injuries such as cuts, bruises, burns, stings and bites, and find out how to best apply dressings.

Then you'll move on to joint and bone problems, including sprains and fractures. You'll also learn to deliver CPR for children.

You will address major situations, learning to confidently approach emergencies and deal with situations involving bleeding, shock and other serious medical problems. Throughout the Paediatric First Aid course there will be special reference to first aid for children, particularly where treatment of adults and children might vary.

Once you have mastered the theory you will have the opportunity to test your skills in an all-inclusive two-day practical training session with St John Ambulance Service.

Entry Requirements

You don't need any previous experience or qualifications to enrol in our Paediatric First Aid course. That's because we believe in making home study - and a rewarding future - as accessible as possible. Do be aware, however, that you will need to attend a two-day practical session.

Where will I go from here?

While this course will be of use to anyone, in any home or business situation, it is especially useful if you are working in an area that requires staff to be trained in First Aid. Part of the training relates specifically to young people, which makes it ideal if you're working in or considering a career in teaching or childcare.

What will I gain?

You'll receive a nationally-recognised Paediatric First Aid Certificate from one of the UK's top First Aid providers on completion of the two-day practical.

This qualification meets the requirements of the Early Years foundation stage statutory framework and OFSTED requirements for registered childminders.

Assessment

Your learning from the Paediatric First Aid course will be assessed at a two-day practical. The practical will take place at one of numerous St John Ambulance Service training centres and will last approximately 12 hours. On completion of this practical you will receive your nationally-recognised Paediatric First Aid Certificate.

What will I get?

Because we're experts in home learning, ICS knows about and offers all the support you need along the way.
