ICS Food Safety

Food safety and hygiene are vital areas of any business that serves, cooks or prepares food. Our Food Safety course will give you the basic knowledge about food safety procedures you will need if you are interested in working in the food business or if you want to build on your existing knowledge.

Our Food Safety training course will start off by underlining the importance of food safety standards and the responsibilities you have when working with food. You'll learn about expected hygiene standards for food handling, and how to ensure personal and food hygiene.

You'll learn how to store food correctly and about basic food safety measures such as stock rotation, the temperatures foods should be stored at and considerations when taking deliveries of food.

And you'll be made aware of the food safety hazards in the workplace, including different routes of contamination. You'll discover how food is safely prepared and also learn about food handling.

This short Food Safety course will give you the basic knowledge of food safety procedures that you will need in any food handling job.


Entry Requirements

You don't need any previous experience or qualifications to enrol in our Food Safety course. That's because we believe in making home study - and a rewarding future - as accessible as possible.

Assessment

As you work through your Food Safety course, at the end of each section you will have a progress check to complete, there are five progress checks in total.

If you have any wrong answers we recommend that you read the relevant section of the study unit again. On completion of the study unit you will have a final, tutor-marked assessment to complete. Once you have successfully completed your tutor-marked assessment you will receive your ICS Diploma in Food Safety.

  • This topic introduces you to the importance of food safety and your own responsibilities when working with food.

Maintaining Personal Cleanliness and Hygiene

  • Learn what general hygiene standards you are expected to have and measures you can take to ensure that these are kept.

  • Study the differences between cleaning and disinfecting and learn about the suitable surfaces and equipment that should be used. You will also learn about waste disposal and pest control procedures.

Receiving and Storing Food Safely

Explore how food should be preserved and the correct temperature control. Discover how food is safely prepared, cooked, chilled and reheated. You will also learn about the handling of food in this section.
