Our Life Coach course will give you skills and knowledge you need to pursue a career as a life coach. It will provide you with the underpinning knowledge you require to undertake further study in this field.

You will gain skills in establishing a rapport and trust with clients, and look at motivation and how you can help them achieve their maximum potential. You will learn how to overcome issues such as low self esteem and self-limiting behaviours, and study how to build self confidence and the importance of supporting feedback in this.

Should you decide to progress towards setting up your own practice, this course will teach you how to create a business plan, and explore the health, safety and legislative issues involved in setting up a Life Coach business. You will also learn about marketing a business and pick up tips to maximise your chances of success.

Life coaching is a career that can have real impact on people's lives, and demand for trained professional life coaches is increasing every day as people realise the value of a motivation expert who can look at the big picture and help them realise their full potential.

Entry Requirements

You don't need any previous experience or qualifications to enrol in our Life Coaching course. That's because we believe in making home study - and a rewarding future - as accessible as possible.

 

Where will I go from here?

Once you have completed this Life Coach course, you may want to continue your studies with practical training from an industry-recognised provider, enabling you to continue your journey towards becoming a practising life coach. There are several reputable Life Coach industry bodies in the UK which you will discover through a quick Internet search, and which you might want to contact directly regarding further training.

What will I gain?

On completion, you'll receive the ICS Diploma in Life Coaching.

Assessment

Assessments are a great way of checking your progress. Throughout the Life Coaching course, you'll complete five assessments. The first 4 assessments contain 20 multiple-choice questions and the final assessment has 2 elements.

1. The first requires you to produce a business plan for a proposed or imaginary coaching business

2. The second requires you to produce a piece of writing for advertising this business

Generally, assessments can be sent to us online via the ICS Student Community: it's the fastest way to receive your results.

As a Life Coaching student, you'll receive the complimentary textbook - Coaching Manual, by Shelagh Young (L.C.H.Dip).

You'll also be part of the ICS Online Student Community, where you'll have access to library materials and your account information, as well as vital links with your fellow students, with the chance to discuss your work, ask questions and make new friends.

Introduction to Coaching

  • Consider the role of a coach. Learn the four key principles of coaching. Examine the basic skills required to be an effective coach. Discover how to build rapport between yourself and a client, and how to create a relationship of trust and honesty.

The Art of Coaching (1)

  • Consider the impact of low self-esteem on the coaching process, and examine methods of addressing this. Explore the setting and achieving of goals.

The Art of Coaching (2)

  • Consider the use of stories and supportive feedback in the coaching process. Examine NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) and, through so doing, learn how to better understand and interact with your clients.

The Ethical Coach

  • Consider the importance of confidentiality and of client/coach agreements. Explore current and forthcoming legislation relating to discrimination. Discover ways in which health and safety risks associated with coaching can be minimised.

Building a Successful Coaching Practice

  • Discover how to set career goals and develop a business plan. Explore a number of different marketing techniques.
