GCSE Mathematics

The GCSE Mathematics is particularly useful as it is a key requirement for many jobs. A Maths GCSE shows you have an understanding of numbers and the ability to work with them. Many people find learning maths intimidating, but this course will guide you through the subject in easy steps, building both your understanding and your confidence. Even if a career in the field of maths isn't part of the equation, confidence with numbers is a real bonus is everyday life as well as at work. The GCSE Mathematics is built around examples related wherever possible to everyday life.

In this GCSE Mathematics course you will start with the basics, learning to solve numerical problems and make calculations. You'll learn about number systems and progress to algebraic equations, formulae, graphs and functions.

You'll also explore geometry and discover ways to calculate the qualities of various shapes and work out areas.

You will learn to collect and assess mathematical data and to use it to solve specific problems and interpret and assess the results.

Through studying maths you will learn that it is about more than numbers: it's about thinking logically and being able to apply the principles you learn to everyday situations.

Entry Requirements

You don't need any previous experience or qualifications to enrol in our GCSE Mathematics course. That's because we believe in making home study - and a rewarding future - as accessible as possible.

Where will I go from here?

A GCSE in Maths will give you vital skills that can lead onto A Level and further studies in mathematics, eventually leading to a career in one of its associated fields. If you wish to enter or progress in the workforce generally, you'll find your GCSE Mathematics will demonstrate to employers that you have the ability to commit to learning, and have acquired good reasoning and analytical skills - essential in practically every walk of life.

What will I gain?

This course will prepare you to sit the GCSE Mathematics exams.

Assessment

You will be required to submit eight Test Papers to your ICS course tutor throughout the study of this course. These Test Papers are designed to test your knowledge of the material studied and also to allow your tutor to give you feedback on your learning.

There are also three mock examination papers included with your course at Higher and Foundation Tier. The mock papers are designed to give you practice of the type of questions you will face in the actual examination.

Coursework

  • You are not required to complete any coursework element as part of this course. Assessment of this course is entirely via exams.

GCSE Exams

You will be required to complete three examinations for your GCSE in Mathematics. The format of these papers is as follows:

Unit 1: Statistics and Probability

  • One written paper
  • Tiered papers

o Foundation Tier grades C - G available
o Higher Tier grades A* - D available

  • 1 hour 15 minutes for Foundation Paper
  • 1 hour 15 minutes for Higher Paper
  • Calculators allowed

Unit 2: Number, Algebra Geometry 1

  • One written paper
  • Tiered papers

o Foundation Tier grades C - G available
o Higher Tier grades A* - D available

  • 1 hour 15 minutes for Foundation Paper
  • 1 hour 15 minutes for Higher Paper
  • Calculators not allowed

Unit 3: Number, Algebra Geometry 2

  • One written paper
  • Tiered papers

o Foundation Tier grades C - G available
o Higher Tier grades A* - D available

  • 1 hour 30 minutes for Foundation Paper
  • 1 hour 45 minutes for Higher Paper
  • Calculators allowed
