It is becoming increasingly important to be able to prove to employers that you have the computer skills required to join their organisation. There is no better way to prove your IT skills than with the internationally recognised European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL). ECDL Essentialsis a computer course which has been designed as an introduction to IT, covering the fundamentals of computer literacy as well as the internet and emails.

ECDL Essentials consists of three introductory ECDL modules which in themselves can lead to a certificate or the achievement can be used towards the next stage stages in ECDL Extra.

The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) course is available to study at many different levels. The ECDL Essentials course is designed for those who have a limited understanding of IT. It aims to improve your productivity and confidence by giving you an in-depth introduction to computers and basic computer skills.

The European Computer Driving Licence Foundation Ltd has registered Trade Marks and logos. The courseware material distributed through ICS has been developed by CiA Training Limited and has received the approval of ECDL Foundation.

Entry Requirements

You don't need any previous experience or qualifications to enrol in the ECDL Essentials course, but you will need access to a PC running Microsoft Office 2003, and periodically to the Internet.

Where will I go from here?

The skills you develop in this course can be applied to any level of study. Or once you're confident in your IT essential skills you may choose to go on and sit the ECDL EssentialsExam.

ECDL tests can be sat at an accredited testing centre. Please note that assessment fees are additional to your course fees.

Assessment

The ECDL Essentials course contains no formal assessment as its purpose is to gradually introduce learners to basic IT skills without pressure. The course does include a number of activities that allow you to apply the theories learned and monitor your own progress. The purpose of the course is to generate confidence in your IT skills.

Any student who wishes to do so can go on and sit the ECDL Essentials Exam. Tasks are designed to test your knowledge of computer software. They require you to carry out activities on a computer, such as sending emails.

Each multiple-choice question comes with four potential answers. Only one of these answers is correct; the other three are wrong. You must identify the correct answer.
