IT Career Starter (CompTIA A+ & Network +)

IT Career Starter (CompTIA A+ & Network +)

The IT Career Starter is the perfect first step to a career in IT - the standard entry-level qualification for computer technicians and engineers, recognised by employers everywhere.

The course is a combination of the A+ and Network+ certifications, both of which are sponsored by CompTIA, the leading provider of IT certifications worldwide.

Because the course is not specific to one brand name, CompTIA certification does not restrict your IT career to a single operating system.

CompTIA A+ certification is recognised as part of the IT certification track for companies like Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco and Novell, and many other companies regard it as mandatory for their service technicians.

Network + marks you out as a competent networking professional, able to manage, maintain, troubleshoot, install and configure basic network infrastructure.

The combined IT certifications mark you out to prospective employers as more knowledgeable and confident than non-certified technicians, and more easily able to adapt to changing technologies. This can lead to new computer career opportunities. According to an IDC survey, 40% of certified professionals received a promotion within one year of attaining a primary certification.

The IT Career Starter course covers installation, preventative maintenance, security, troubleshooting, and installing and configuring a basic network infrastructure, as well as customer service and communication skills.

Entry Requirements

Students on CompTIA A+ should have the knowledge required to understand the fundamentals of computer technology, networking, and security. They should be able to identify hardware, peripheral, networking, and security components. They should also understand the basic functionality of the operating system and basic troubleshooting methodology.  The audience for CompTIA Network+ 2009 training will comprise IT personnel with at least 9 months IT networking experience. Good computer literacy along with a sound technical acumen should be present. Students looking to acquire job skills, and to be trained specifically to pass the associated CompTIA Network+ (2009 Edition) certification exam will want to study this learning path.
