The BTEC National Award in Construction course will lead to a
nationally-recognised award that can give you entry to a wide
variety of jobs in construction. It is similar to the Advanced
Diploma in Construction, but deals in greater depth with the
planning and management aspects of the construction industry.
You will learn about construction from the basics, starting with
the design and planning process and studying a variety of
traditional and modern construction methods. You will explore a
range of construction techniques and materials, and gain an
understanding of the science behind construction.
You will find out how water, drainage, electricity and gas are
integrated into buildings, and consider the importance of effective
health and safety procedures on a building site.
To take your construction training to the next level, you will
study the planning and organisation involved in construction
projects, and the resources needed to complete them. You will also
look at the legal aspects of planning procedures and the different
design requirements for urban and landscape design.
When you have completed the BTEC National Award in Construction
course you will have the knowledge required to obtain construction
jobs at trainee level in any of a number of related trades.
To enrol in the BTEC National Award in Construction course, you
must be over 16 and educated to at least GCSE standard D-G or hold
an NVQ at level 1, or a GNVQ Foundation Certificate. Internet
access is required.
Once you've completed the BTEC National Award in Construction
course, you'll hold an industry-recognised qualification that can
take you into a trainee position in any construction-based role.
Alternatively, you can progress to further study and enter the
industry at a higher level.
On completion, you'll receive the BTEC Level 3 National Award in
Construction.
Assessments are a great way of checking your progress. During
your BTEC National Award in Construction course, you'll complete
five formative assessments, containing 10-20 multiple-choice
questions and six compulsory scenario-based assignments.
Please note that, while Construction Technology and Design is
studied as part of the National Award, it is not assessed. This is
the reason why there are seven modules but only six compulsory
assessments.
Scenario-based assignments test that you can apply the knowledge
you have learnt from the course to theoretical situations. Each
assignment requires you to complete a number of questions or
activities.
Generally, assessments can be sent to us online via the ICS
Student Community: it's the fastest way to receive your
results.
Because we're experts in home learning, ICS knows about and
offers all the support you need along the way.
You'll receive study materials that have been specially designed
for distance learning by experts in your chosen field.
As a BTEC National Award in Construction student, you'll receive
the complimentary textbook: Construction Technology, by Roy
Chudley.
You'll have access to an experienced personal tutor both online
and over the phone, ready to help you with guidance and
motivation.
You'll also be part of the ICS Online Student Community, where
you'll have access to library materials and your account
information, as well as vital links with your fellow students, with
the chance to discuss your work, ask questions and make new
friends.
