The BTEC Surveying and Estimating course leads to a
nationally-recognised Level 3 award and will introduce you to the
roles of surveyor and estimator, giving you the skills you need to
start your career in surveying.
You will look at the purpose of surveying and estimating and
consider how surveyors and estimators interact with other members
of the construction team.
The BTEC Surveying and Estimating course will teach you the
measuring and calculating techniques required to price large-scale
construction projects, and explore the different methods of
tendering, along with its aims and objectives.
Survey techniques will be taught, along with the required
mathematics, and you will learn about building and condition
surveys and discover why they are essential to the success of a
project.
As you study surveying techniques, you'll also learn about
health and safety issues in the workplace and learn how to reduce
any risks while on-site.
When you have completed the BTEC Surveying and Estimating course
you will have the knowledge and survey techniques you require to
become a trainee surveyor.
To enrol in the BTEC Surveying and Estimating course, you must
be over 16 and educated to at least GCSE standard D-G or hold an
NVQ at level 1, or a GNVQ Foundation Certificate.
Additionally, you must have some experience of the
construction industry. Internet access is required.
Once you've completed the BTEC Surveying and Estimating course,
you'll hold an industry-recognised qualification that can take you
into a trainee estimator or surveyor role. Alternatively, you can
progress to further study and enter the industry at a higher
level.
On completion of the BTEC Surveying and Estimating course,
you'll receive the BTEC Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Surveying and
Estimating.
Assessments are a great way of checking your progress. During
your BTEC Surveying and Estimating course, you'll complete two
formative assessments, consisting of 12- 20 multiple-choice

Scenario-based assignments test that you can apply the knowledge
you have learnt from the course to theoretical situations. Each
assignment requires you to complete a number of questions or
activities.
