The ICS Make-up Artist course leads to a nationally-recognised
BTEC accredited qualification, and recognises that, while a high
degree of technical knowledge is required, being a make-up artist
is a creative profession, and allows you to experiment and develop
your own style.
At the beginning of the course you'll study the underlying
structure of the face, so that you can better understand the way
facial features are affected by make-up. You will then explore the
tools and products available to help you achieve professional
results.
Make-up techniques for a wide range of applications will be
demonstrated and you'll learn how to create individual looks for a
variety of occasions such as fashion shoots, weddings, catwalk
shows, and film and theatre productions.
To prepare you for working in the industry, the course also
considers the health and safety aspects of make-up application, and
looks at your legal responsibilities as a commercial make-up
artist. Skin care is a vitally important aspect of the make-up
artist's work, as constant use of make-up can affect the skin, so
you'll learn how to approach this to ensure continued skin health
where make up is being used.
You'll also look at jobs for make-up artists and employment
opportunities in the field so you can choose the career path best
suited to you.
You don't need any previous experience or qualifications to
enrol in our BTEC Make-up Artist course. That's because we believe
in making home study - and a rewarding future - as accessible as
possible.
With the training you receive in the BTEC Make-up Artist course,
you'll be ready for further specialist skills development, or to
pursue a career as a make-up artist in a wide variety of fields,
from fashion and photography to beauty salons and the theatre. You
may desire to work as an employee, or to establish yourself as a
freelance professional.
On completion, you'll receive a BTEC Level 2 Intermediate
Certificate Make-up Artist.
Assessments are a great way of checking your progress.
Throughout the Make-up Artist course, you'll complete four
assessments.
- Assessment 1: you will be required to reflect
on your skills and produce a personal development plan. You will
also be tested, through short answer questions, on your knowledge
of career opportunities for make-up artists, as well as on your
understanding of the legal responsibilities of make-up
artists.
- Assessment 2: a practical assignment requiring
you to prepare a model for make-up
- Assessment 3: a practical assignment requiring
you to demonstrate a range of make-up designs
- Assessment 4: a practical assignment requiring
you to create make-up designs for a range of occasions, including
wedding and catwalk
While carrying out each practical assignment, you will be
required to create a range of material which will be used for
assessment. This will include photographic evidence of each make-up
treatment, a short written report on your impressions of each
treatment, and questionnaires to be competed by the models used for
each treatment.
Because we're experts in home learning, ICS knows about and
offers all the support you need along the way.
