BA (Hons) Psychology with Education

The BA (Hons) degree in Psychology Studies and Education combines the understanding of people's behaviour and motivations with the core aspects of education and the learning process. You'll gain an understanding of educational psychology and the factors that influence the learning process, as well as exploring the relationship between sociology and education.

The Psychology and Education degree will allow you to study the core areas of psychology and its practical applications, in particular, educational psychology and developmental psychology.

You will look at research and measurement methods and techniques and apply theory to real life experience. You will also study the background and structure to the profession and look at the psychology of education and at psychology in education, gaining an understanding of the psychological factors that can influence the learning process.

Throughout the BA (Hons) Psychology Studies & Education course you will look at both psychology and education and prove your new knowledge and skills through regular assessments and projects, with a career-boosting degree in psychology and education at the end of it.

Where will I go from here?

Once you've successfully completed the Psychology with Education degree, you'll have a qualification that is highly relevant to a wide range of areas of work - from social work and teaching to marketing.

However, this degree is not BPS accredited. In order to pursue studies within the psychology profession itself, such as educational, clinical, occupational or forensic psychology you must convert your degree through BPS accredited postgraduate training.

What will I gain?

When successfully completing a module you'll gain 20 credits. In order to gain an Honours Degree you will need to obtain a total of 360 credits - 120 credits at each level. However, if you prefer to graduate early, you can choose from the following Intermediate Awards.

  • Ordinary Degree - 300 credits (15 modules) 
  • Diploma of Higher Education - 240 credits (12 modules) 
  • Certificate of Higher Education - 120 credits (6 modules) 
  • University Undergraduate Certificate - 40 credits (2 modules) 
  • University Undergraduate Associate Certificate - 20 credits (1 module)

Remember that whichever option you choose; you'll receive only one final award.

Assessment

There are a number of assessments that you complete as part of your studies and forward to your academic tutor for grading and comments.

You'll also take a summative assessment at the end of your module. Summative assessments include coursework, exams or a mix of both. Summative assessments take place three times a year and exam venues are located around the UK. Please note that there are additional summative assessment fees for each module.

This module encourages you to consider yourself as a learner and explore how your learning potential can be maximised to aid the achievement of personal objectives.

You'll also learn how to develop your general study skills - essay writing, effective reading and note taking, critical thinking, taking part in research, accessing library information, using computers and online research.

Introduction to Psychology 1

This module will introduce you to psychology, its context, core themes and key approaches. You'll cover a number of exciting topics including the historical background of psychology, inter-relationships with other disciplines, cognitive psychology and individual and group differences.
