Combining the fields of education and psychology, our BA (Hons) Education with Psychology Studies degree course will give you a deeper understanding of our education system and learning theories exploring educational psychology and how people learn. As an education and psychology degree, it will let you examine the situations and ways of learning as well as the mental processes and behaviours involved in education.

The education and psychology degree will give you an understanding of how people are educated, influenced, informed and trained. You will be able to study educational psychology and the application of psychology studies to education. You will ask questions about how people learn and examine what makes learning more or less effective, studying the main learning theories and the psychology of education. You will learn about research techniques and methods and how to apply theory to real life applications.

Where will I go from here?

Once you've successfully completed the Education and Psychology Studies degree, you'll have the personal and intellectual qualities needed for a career in school teaching or PCET training.  If you are interested in primary school teaching, then you can take the one-year Post Graduate Qualification (PGCE) in primary years. But this degree is also valuable in areas outside teaching too, from social work to marketing.

What will I gain?

When successfully completing a module you'll gain 20 credits. In order to gain an Honours Degree you will need to obtain a total of 360 credits - 120 credits at each level. However, if you prefer to graduate early, you can choose from the following intermediate awards.

  • Ordinary Degree - 300 credits (15 modules) 
  • Diploma of Higher Education - 240 credits (12 modules) 
  • Certificate of Higher Education - 120 credits (6 modules) 
  • University Undergraduate Certificate - 40 credits (2 modules) 
  • University Undergraduate Associate Certificate - 20 credits (1 module)

Remember that, whichever option you choose, you'll receive only one final award.

Assessment

There are a number of assessments that you complete as part of your studies and forward to your academic tutor for grading and comments.

You'll also take a summative assessment at the end of your module. Summative assessments include coursework, exams or a mix of both. Summative assessments take place three times a year and exam venues are located around the UK. Please note that there are additional summative assessment fees for each module.

Now you've enrolled on your degree course, this module will help you learn how to study at degree level. By understanding how to critically engage with written texts and learning academic style, punctuation and grammar, you'll develop and refine your knowledge - and you'll also discover how to use the Learning Resource Centre. After taking this module, you'll have all the skills and confidence you need for successful academic study.

Introduction to Psychology 1

This module will introduce you to psychology, its context, core themes and key approaches. You'll cover a number of exciting topics including the historical background of psychology, inter-relationships with other disciplines, cognitive psychology and individual and group differences.
