Combining human resources skills with a business management degree, the BA (Hons) Business Management (Human Resources) degree will equip you with invaluable skills to get ahead. You will gain training in human resources skills and knowledge to back up your abilities in leadership, motivation and team-building. You will examine important human resources issues such as recruitment and retention of staff, training and development, negotiation and reward, as well as the law and how it affects employment issues.

Through the BA (Hons) Business Management (Human Resources) course you will gain an insight into management of human resources within organisations. You'll find out about managing organisations and the external environment in which they operate, and how they respond to change and plan strategically for the future. You will understand the roles of business support functions such as marketing, finance, operations and IT. Very much a business degree, this course will equip you to understand and be comfortable in the business environment, while gaining human resources skills to improve and develop your leadership, team-building and influencing skills and help you in a human resources career.

Where will I go from here?

As you might expect, there's a strong demand for Business Management graduates with specialist skills in Human Resources in all types of industrial, commercial and financial organisations, as well as the public sector. You could find yourself working for a small independent or medium-sized company, or even one of the larger blue chip companies, who tend to offer more structured training, experience and promotion opportunities. Alternatively, you could become your own boss, working as a self-employed HR consultant.  In whichever case, this degree will equip you to meet the opportunities and challenges along the way.

What will I gain?

When successfully completing a module you'll gain 20 credits.  In order to gain an Honours Degree you will need to obtain a total of 360 credits - 120 credits at each level.  However, if you prefer to graduate early, you can choose from the following Intermediate Awards.

  • Ordinary Degree - 300 credits (15 modules)
  • Diploma of Higher Education - 240 credits (12 modules) 
  • Certificate of Higher Education - 120 credits (6 modules) 
  • University Undergraduate Certificate - 40 credits (2 modules) 
  • University Undergraduate Associate Certificate - 20 credits (1 module)

Remember that whichever option you choose; you'll receive only one final award.

Assessment

There are a number of assessments that you complete as part of your studies and forward to your academic tutor for grading and comments.

You'll also take a summative assessment at the end of your module. Summative assessments include coursework, exams or a mix of both. Summative assessments take place three times a year and exam venues are located around the UK. Please note that there are additional summative assessment fees for each module.

Business Environment

This module is designed to introduce you to business organisations and business environments, and explain how economic change affects businesses. You'll cover everything from public and private sectors to profit and non-profit organisations. You'll also learn just how important changes in the national and global economic systems are to a business.

From September 2012 tuition fees are rising due to government funding for higher education being cut.The University of East London will charge tuition fees of £995 per module to new Home, EU and International students on distance learning undergraduate courses.

If you are a Home or EU student you will not have to pay these university fees upfront. If you are studying for your first degree or other higher education course which is at least 25% intensity of an equivalent full-time course, you can get a Government tuition fee loan. You don't have to repay anything until you have finished your course and are earning over £21,000.
