The BA (Hons) Business Management (Finance) course will allow you to combine a broad study of business management issues with an in-depth study of the crucial role of finance in business, in both day-to-day operations and strategic planning.

You will cover the business management concepts common to all organisations: how a business operates; the roles of different support functions such as HR, finance, operations and IT, and how organisations respond to change and plan strategically for the future.

You will also develop an in-depth knowledge of financial management and accounting issues and techniques, analysing external factors' impact on performance and profitability and trends in global finance.

The BA (Hons) Business Management (Finance) course will enable you to combine an understanding of business with an awareness of the role of financial information in the process of making business decisions. You will develop an effective and systematic approach to problem-solving and decision-making, building your powers of critical thinking.

Where will I go from here?

As you might expect, there's a strong demand for Finance graduates in all types of industrial, commercial and financial organisations, as well as the public sector. You could find yourself working for a small independent or medium-sized company or for one of the larger blue chip companies, who tend to offer more structured training, experience and promotion opportunities. Alternatively, you could become a self-employed finance consultant. What will I gain?

When successfully completing a module you'll gain 20 credits. In order to gain an Honours Degree you will need to obtain a total of 360 credits - 120 credits at each level. However, if you prefer to graduate early, you can choose from the following intermediate awards.

  • Ordinary Degree - 300 credits (15 modules) 
  • Diploma of Higher Education - 240 credits (12 modules) 
  • Certificate of Higher Education - 120 credits (6 modules) 
  • University Undergraduate Certificate - 40 credits (2 modules) 
  • University Undergraduate Associate Certificate - 20 credits (1 module)

Remember that, whichever option you choose, you'll receive only one final award.

Assessment

There are a number of assessments that you complete as part of your studies and forward to your academic tutor for grading and comments.

You'll also take a summative assessment at the end of your module. Summative assessments include coursework, exams or a mix of both. Summative assessments take place three times a year and exam venues are located around the UK. Please note that there are additional summative assessment fees for each module.

Business Environment

This module is designed to introduce you to business organisations, business environments and how economic change affects businesses. You'll cover everything from public and private sectors to profit and non-profit organisations. You'll also learn just how important changes in the national and global economic systems are to a business.
