Unit One: Introduction to the Aviation Industry
Students studying this unit will develop an appreciation of the size of the UK airport industry and its regulatory framework for operation. You will also develop an appreciation of the role of many different airport organisations that are involved with passengers and passenger handling.
Additionally, you will develop an understanding of airline operations and an appreciation of the different types of airlines including: scheduled, low-cost scheduled, charter and executive. Upon completion of the unit, you will be able to recognise aircraft operated by different airlines, the different classes of service and types of fares as well as appreciate the many different types of passengers.
Lastly, you will explore aviation geography in relation to continents, countries, hubs, gateways and physical features in order to fully appreciate flight routeings, flight durations, time zones and climatic conditions.
