Unit 4: Health, Safety and Security

This unit develops your understanding of the role that air cabin crew play in maintaining the health, safety, security and hygiene of passengers and crew and the cabin environment.

You will investigate relevant national and international laws and regulations that relate to this area and consider how they affect the role of air cabin crew.  Additionally, you will consider potential problems and the legal and organisational responsibilities placed on cabin crew when dealing with challenging and emergency situations.

The security and safety of passengers is paramount and increasingly air cabin crew are faced with situations arising from passengers’ behaviour including terrorist attack and air rage. You will be made aware of potential problems, how they can be prevented (damage limitation) and how they can be resolved.

Cabin crew must also be able to deal with a range of passenger health issues on board a flight. Therefore, you will develop an awareness of common health problems likely to be encountered, how they can be recognised and the appropriate actions to take.
